Argentina is going through the most critical changes of the present century.
After fifty years of significant regulations in the economy, with a system based on high subsidies derived from the Agricultural sector and into the Industry, the present government has dismantled many barriers, allowing a substantial increase in imports and exports.
Another important driving force in present changes is the Mercosur. Advances in the integration of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay create excellent opportunities to these countries, especially to the first two.
Perhaps the biggest structural problem Argentina had, was a rather small market - 33 million people - for scale economies. Suddenly the market was enlarged to around 180 million inhabitants!
Interest from foreign investors was focused in various sectors. The food industry, car manufacturing, the energy sector, modernization of local infrastructure and real estate were the areas which concentrated major investments.
From these areas we have chosen to center our efforts in the food industry. There are some basic considerations for this strategic decision:
